Multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, photographer, historian, and five-time Grammy winner Marty Stuart sits down with Scott Goldman—vice president of the GRAMMY Foundation and the MusiCares Foundation—to discuss his life and career during the 2014 Americana Fest.
Over the course of the nearly hourlong program, Stuart shares details about nearly every facet of his creativity, from recording and touring experiences to having his first photography exhibit on display at Nashville’s Frist Art Museum, the development of Marty Stuart's Congress of Country Music (a music museum in his hometown of Philadelphia, Mississippi), and his weekly RFD TV show, “The Marty Stuart Show,” including how 1960s country music television shows “The Johnny Cash Show,” “The Porter Wagoner Show,” and “The Flatt and Scruggs Grand Ole Opry Show” inspired it.
Stuart traverses his decades-long career, from his early days on the road with bluegrass icon Lester Flatt and later, Johnny Cash, through to the origins of his 2014 album “Saturday Night/Sunday Morning,” a two-record set that includes one album of old and new country tunes and one featuring gospel songs. He also affirms his mission to honor country music’s older artists while introducing new generations to artists like Old Crow Medicine Show and Sturgill Simpson.
Presented in partnership with the Americana Music Association.
