Donna Fargo sits down in the Museum’s Ford Theater to explain her songwriting inspiration, explore her successful career, and share the stories behind her many hits. She puts her own spin on the Museum’s Songwriter Session series by including fellow songwriter and performer Lauren Mascitti, who performs alongside Fargo. This program was recorded on November 1, 2025.
During the program, Fargo explains her songwriting process and tells the stories of five of her most acclaimed singles. She and Mascitti spotlight Fargo’s 1972 #1 country hit “The Happiest Girl in the Whole U.S.A,” along with “Funny Face,” “Superman,” “That Was Yesterday,” and “You Were Always There.”
Fargo’s hit “The Happiest Girl in the Whole U.S.A.” received the Academy of Country Music’s Song of the Year and Single Record of the Year awards, the Country Music Association’s Single of the Year award, and the Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance, Female. In addition to her other aforementioned hits, her catalog includes the songs “Do I Love You (Yes in Every Way,” “It Do Feel Good,” “Mockingbird,” “U.S. of A.,” and “You Can’t Be a Beacon If Your Light Don’t Shine.”
