Luke Combs’s longtime band, the Wild Cards, sits down for an intimate performance and conversation with Museum Writer-Editor Dave Paulson. This program was recorded live on March 22, 2025, and offered in support of the exhibition “Luke Combs: The Man I Am.”
During the program, Wild Cards members Jamie Davis, Korey Hunt, Tyler King, Kurt Ozan, Dustin Nunley, Mat Maxwell, and Jake Sommers share songs and stories from their decade-long journey with Combs. Each musician speaks to their unique path to joining the band, and the group reminisces about some of their favorite memories from the road, including performing at the Grammys and sharing the stage with James Taylor. Throughout the program, the Wild Cards perform Combs’s songs “1, 2 Many,” “Hannah Ford Road,” “In Case I Ain’t Around,” “The Kind of Love We Make,” “My Kinda Folk,” and “Still”—all co-written by members of the band. Following an engaging Q&A with the audience, the Wild Cards close this program with a powerful rendition of “Fox in the Henhouse.”
Live performances have been key to Combs’s success from the beginning. Over the past decade, as the country star has progressed from playing bars to mounting international stadium tours, his band has remained by his side. They’ve also forged a bond with Combs’s dedicated fans, dubbed “the Bootleggers,” by playing parking lot concerts for tailgaters before Combs’s stadium gigs and at other fan gatherings.
