Following a screening of rare and previously unreleased clips of Bob Dylan culled from the Bob Dylan Archive in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Bob Dylan Center Director Steven Jenkins and Nashville-based singer-songwriters Robyn Hitchcock and Emma Swift sit down for a panel discussion moderated by musician and journalist, Pete Finney. This program was recorded live on April 5, 2025, in the Museum’s Ford Theater; was presented in partnership with the Bob Dylan Center; and was made possible in part by Bob Dylan Center member and Vanderbilt University Osher Lifelong Learning Institute instructor Russ Heldman.

Throughout the program, the panellists discuss Dylan’s often-misunderstood vocal prowess and his ability to “shed skins” and transform as an artist and songwriter, as well as how Tulsa was chosen to be the home of the Bob Dylan Center. Finney, who co-curated the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum exhibition “Dylan, Cash, and the Nashville Cats: A New Music City” (2015–2018) explains how Nashville musicians—many of whom are featured in the archival footage—played and continue to play key roles in Dylan’s recording and touring life.

The program concludes with intimate performances from Hitchcock and Swift, with accompaniment from Finney on pedal steel. A sparse rendition of “Tryin’ to Get to Heaven” from Dylan’s 1997 album, “Time Out of Mind,” is followed by the Dylan classic “Visions of Johanna.”
