Songwriters Jon Decious and Aaron Raitiere share stories from their lives and perform songs they’ve written as part of the Museum’s weekly Songwriter Session series. This program, presented in support of the exhibition “Lainey Wilson: Tough as Nails,” was recorded on July 19, 2025.
Decious and Raitiere begin the program with two songs they co-wrote, “Single Wide Dreamer” and “Dear Darlin’,” both from Raitiere’s 2022 album, “Single Wide Dreamer.” The songwriters then offer insight into one of their songwriting exercises and perform the song “Hit by a Truck,” which Decious and Raitiere recorded as Ratty Dishes.
Raitiere also performs “For the Birds,” a song he co-wrote with Miranda Lambert, and “You Look Like You Love Me,” co-written with Ella Langley and Riley Green, during this program, and Decious performs “Counting Chickens,” a song he co-wrote that Wilson recorded for her 2024 album, “Whirlwind.” Wilson joins Decious and Raitiere as a surprise special guest for the program’s final two songs, “Ring Finger” and “4x4xU.”
Decious and Raitiere, who often write songs together, have also co-written songs for Ashley McBryde. Additionally, Decious has had his songs recorded by Tyler Braden, Paul Cauthen, Ben Chapman, Anderson East, and Kylie Frey, and Raitiere’s songs have been recorded by Brent Cobb, Midland, Muscadine Bloodline, Randy Rogers Band, and Koe Wetzel.
