Runaway June performs a mix of original music, country covers, and a holiday classic on stage at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s CMA Theater for Ford Community Day, a free day of access to the Museum’s cultural and educational offerings.
The performance—the trio’s final concert of the year, held on December 16, 2018—begins with “Train Whistle,” “I Can Make You Forget Her,” and a cover of Keith Urban’s “Somebody Like You.” The group introduces their second single, “Wild West,” by talking about a lyric that alludes to band member Jennifer Wayne’s grandfather, John Wayne.
After a cover of Dwight Yoakam’s “Fast as You,” the trio sings their rising single “Buy My Own Drinks” and a festive version of “Sleigh Ride.” They also perform “She Don’t Love You,” which was recorded by Wayne’s co-writer on the song, Eric Paslay. The concert concludes with the band’s first single, “Lipstick.”
Nearing the end of the performance, band member Naomi Cooke tells the audience, “We’re just so excited to end the year here. This is so full circle and incredible. . . . It’s really, really surreal because the first day that I moved to Nashville, I came to the Hall of Fame. I had thirty dollars to my name, and I spent eighteen bucks on a ticket to come to the Hall of Fame. And [in the Museum’s exhibits] I saw the Dixie Chicks and I saw Shania Twain and Alison Krauss and everyone who inspired me to play music.”
