William Michael Morgan performs a mix of covers and songs from his debut album, “Vinyl,” on stage at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Filmed on June 8, 2017, the live event was planned in support of the Museum’s exhibition “American Currents: State of the Music” (which featured Morgan in its 2017 installment) and during the year’s CMA Music Fest.
A native of Vicksburg, Mississippi, Morgan received his first guitar at the age of eleven. As a freshman in high school, he formed a band with players three times his age and started playing honky-tonks. After making numerous visits to Nashville, Morgan landed recording and publishing contracts before he reached the age of twenty.
The Museum paired Morgan in “American Currents” alongside Keith Whitley, as part of the exhibition’s “Unbroken Circle,” and Morgan performs four songs during this program that Whitley recorded.
The set list includes “Brother Jukebox,” “Vinyl,” “I Never Go Around Mirrors,” “Check Yes or No,” “Cheap Cologne,” “Missing,” “Miami, My Amy,” “I Know Who He Is”, “I Met a Girl” (his breakout debut single), and “Between an Old Memory and Me.”
