Recording artist and songwriter Kelsey Waldon performs songs she has written and recorded and shares the stories behind them as part of the Museum’s Songwriter Session series. This program was recorded on March 2, 2024, in support of the Museum’s exhibition “American Currents: State of the Music.”
During this program, Waldon performs “Kentucky, 1988,” from her 2019 album, “White Noise/White Lines,” as well as “Backwater Blues,” “Peace Alone (Reap What You Sow),” and “Tall and Mighty,” all from her 2022 album, “No Regular Dog.” She also performs a song that she has not yet released, “Somebody That Just Can’t Quit.” Additionally, Waldon answers audience questions about writing music, who has inspired her, growing up in Monkey’s Eyebrow, Kentucky, and her working relationship with John Prine.
In 2019, Waldon became the first artist in fifteen years to be signed to Prine’s Oh Boy Records. In May 2024, she released her newest album, “There’s Always a Song,” featuring covers of songs that have influenced her.
