As bonus performances for his “Live at the Hall” episode, singer-songwriter Charley Crockett performs “July Jackson,” a murder ballad about a woman who is perhaps justified in killing a man, and “All the Way from Atlanta,” a new composition that, as of the September 10, 2021, program taping, had not yet been recorded.
For his main “Live at the Hall” program, Crockett joins the Museum’s Michael Gray to discuss his musical influences, songwriting, and breaking of industry norms. He also performs his songs “Are We Lonesome Yet” and “Cowboy Candy” and traditional song “Diamond Joe.”
Crockett was recognized in the 2021 installment of “American Currents: State of the Music,” the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s annual exhibition focused on the most significant developments in country music over the previous year. Alongside country star Freddy Fender, Crockett joined the exhibition’s Unbroken Circle, which illustrates the connection between country music’s past, present, and future by sharing the stories of today’s artists and those who influenced them.
