Ashley Campbell, Bailey Bryan, the Sisterhood Band, Abby Anderson, and Cassadee Pope take the spotlight for the 2018 edition of CMT’s annual Next Women of Country showcase, held on June 8 at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, during Nashville’s CMA Fest.
CMT executive Leslie Fram introduces the acts, who each perform two songs in the Museum’s CMA Theater.
Ashley Campbell, the daughter of the late Country Music Hall of Fame member Glen Campbell, is a singer, songwriter, and accomplished multi-instrumentalist who independently released her debut album, “The Lonely One,” in 2018.
Bailey Bryan first made waves with her vertical-format music video for the song “Own It.”
Alyssa Bonagura and Ruby Stewart bonded over their love for music and formed the Sisterhood Band at the encouragement of Stewart’s father, rock and pop mainstay Rod Stewart. They recorded an EP and opened for both Rod Stewart and fellow rock chart-topper Steven Tyler.
Singer-songwriter Abby Anderson signed with Black River Entertainment in 2017, and toured with Russell Dickerson, Chase Rice, and Brett Eldredge.
After winning the TV singing competition “The Voice” in 2012, Cassadee Pope released three studio albums and earned a #1 song and Grammy nomination with Chris Young for the duet “Think of You.”
Performance highlights at the 2018 CMT’s Next Women of Country showcase include Campbell’s “Better Boyfriend,” which displays her wit and guitar skill; Bryan’s “This Without Us,” which she says “'kickstarted” a new creative chapter in her career; the Sisterhood Band’s rousing singalong duet “Doors”; Anderson’s “Make Him Wait,” her first radio single; and Pope’s "Wasting All These Tears," her breakout radio single.
