Singer-songwriter Gary Allan performs live alongside some of his co-writers during a Songwriter Session at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, held during the 2016 CMA Music Festival.
After opening the program with “Right Where I Need to Be,” written by Casey Beathard and Kendell Marvel, Allan opens up about how he struggled to write songs following his wife’s death in 2004, and how recording and releasing a cover of Vertical Horizon’s “Best I Ever Had” allowed him to express his sadness, even though he didn’t write the song.
Allan and songwriter Jonathan Singleton perform “Do You Wish It Was Me?,” which they co-wrote, and Allan’s hit “Watching Airplanes,” which Singleton wrote with Jim Beavers.
Allan and Matt Warren discuss how they co-wrote the #1 song “Every Storm Runs Out of Rain,” before performing it together, and Allan gives Warren the spotlight to perform “Learning How to Bend,” “The Hard Way,” and “She Gets Me,” all of which Warren wrote and Allan recorded.
Other songs Gary Allan performs during his Songwriter Session include: “It Ain’t Worth the Whiskey,” “She’s So California,” “Man to Man,” “The One,” “Bourbon Borderline,” “Smoke Rings in the Dark,” and “Songs About Rain.”
