East Tennessee native, mandolin player, and songwriter Wyatt Ellis performs songs he has written as well as those that inspire him for the Museum’s weekly Musician Spotlight series. David Harvey and Mason Via join him on mandolin and guitar during this program, recorded on May 5, 2024.
Ellis performs two original songs, “Blue Smoke” and “Maryville,” both featured on his 2024 album, “Happy Valley.” During this program, he also performs an array of bluegrass and country songs that inspire him as a musician and songwriter, such as “Roll in My Sweet Baby’s Arms” and “Orange Blossom Special.” Ellis mentions that he is heavily influenced by Bill Monroe and Doc Watson and performs Monroe’s songs “Pocahontas,” “Watson’s Blue,” “Have a Feast Here Tonight,” and “Get Up John.”
Since picking up the mandolin four years ago, Ellis has had a remarkable career. He has performed with Dierks Bentley, Sam Bush, Bobby Osborne, the Po’ Ramblin Boys, Marty Stuart, Molly Tuttle, and Charlie Worsham, to name a few. Ellis made his Grand Ole Opry debut in 2023 and released his debut album, “Happy Valley,” in February 2024.
