During “Songs Fit for a King: Top Songwriters Remember Elvis,” Jerry Chesnut, Mac Davis, Dallas Frazier, and Billy Swan discuss and perform their original songs recorded by Country Music Hall of Fame member Elvis Presley.
“Songs Fit for a King” is part of a series of 2012 programs honoring Presley’s career and legacy at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, timed to mark the thirty-fifth anniversary of his death on August 16, 1977.
Chesnut sings “Love Coming Down” and shares stories about “It’s Midnight” and “T-R-O-U-B-L-E.” Davis performs “A Little Less Conversation,” “Memories,” “In the Ghetto,” and “Don’t Cry Daddy.” Frazier provides renditions of “He Is My Everything,” “True Love Travels on a Gravel Road,” and “Wearin’ That Loved on Look.” Swan performs his original hits “I Can Help” and “Lover Please” (first recorded by Presley’s original bassist, Bill Black), and closes with a slow-tempo version of Otis Blackwell’s “Don’t Be Cruel.”
