During this 2020 Songwriter Session, veteran Nashville songwriter Victoria Banks—whose work has been recorded by artists including Lauren Alaina, Sara Evans, and Carly Pearce—shares some of her songwriting wisdom and performs six of her songs, including "What Are You Gonna Tell Her?", the groundbreaking single Mickey Guyton performed on the 2020 ACM Awards show.
A native of Ontario, Canada, Banks has logged decades as a Nashville songwriter and performer, penning songs recorded by more than 100 artists and touring with such artists as Reba McEntire and Wynonna Judd. For her program at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Banks chooses six songs that represent different aspects of her career.
That mix carries from her first cut, "Saints and Angels" (which Sara Evans recorded in 2001), to "17 Again," a song that appears on her 2020 album, "Uncovered." Banks closes the session with a nod to the holidays, performing "The Greatest Gift," which was featured on the soundtrack for the 2011 TV movie "Christmas Lodge."
In between live performances, Banks chats with host Michael McCall about her day-to-day life as a full-time songwriter, and the motivation that comes with "the magic of a song coming together." She also shares the personal turning point that inspired her and Mickey Guyton to co-write "What Are You Gonna Tell Her?"
