During a May 2014 Songwriter Round, Nicolle Galyon, Natalie Hemby, and Jimmy Robbins perform a mix of Miranda Lambert hits—songs they’ve written with and for the country star—along with tracks they’ve had cut by other artists. Work by all three songwriters appears on Lambert's album "Platinum," released in June 2014.
Hemby performs "Baggage Claim," a song she and Lambert co-wrote with Luke Laird, along with "Virginia Bluebell," co-written with Lambert and included on her album "Revolution," and another Lambert co-write, "White Liar" (Lambert's first #1). She also shares "Downtown," a #1 Lady A hit that she co-wrote with Shane McAnally and Luke Laird.
Galyon sings "Girls," the leadoff track on Lambert's "Platinum," as well as that album’s title track (a co-write between her, Hemby, and Lambert), and "Babies Makin' Babies," which she co-wrote with Hemby and Robbins. Galyon also performs Lambert's "Automatic," which she considers "one of my finer moments" in songwriting, and "It Ain't Pretty," a Lady A cut that Galyon says became part of the reason why Lambert “ever allowed me to get to write with her."
Robbins sings the Blake Shelton #1 "Sure Be Cool if You Did," which he co-wrote.
The Songwriters also team up on several songs, some of which were written together. Hemby joins Robbins for "Priscilla" (a Hemby/Galyon/Robbins co-write, inspired by an imagined conversation between Lambert and Priscilla Presley), and Robbins and Galyon perform Lambert-Keith Urban duet "We Were Us," which the two songwriters co-wrote with Jon Nite.
Presented in support of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum exhibition "Miranda Lambert: Backstage Access" (May 16, 2014, through November 9, 2014).
Miranda Lambert was also recognized in "American Currents: State of the Music," open March 12, 2021, through February 6, 2022.
