Musician Spotlight

56m
Americana artist Lillie Mae performs live and answers audience questions during this December 2018 Musician Spotlight, held at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. She is accompanied by three siblings, sister McKenna Grace Rische on acoustic guitar, sister Scarlett Rische on mandolin, and brother Frank Rische on electric guitar.
Over the course of the program, Mae performs some of her own songs—including "Mama," "Wash Me Clean," "The Last Time," and "Honky Tonks and Taverns"—along with a mix of classics and covers. Among the latter: country classic "Mule Skinner Blues"; "The Chokin' Kind," a song written by Harlan Howard that was most famously recorded by Waylon Jennings; and, performed alongside Martha Spencer of the Whitetop Mountain Band, the Dolly Parton/Porter Wagoner hit "The Pain of Loving You."
During a Q&A with the audience, Lillie Mae talks about why she chose to play the fiddle, the Suzuki violin training all the children in her family underwent, and how they picked up other instruments so they could form a family band.
The program ends with a performance of the gospel classic "Just a Closer Walk with Thee."
