Singer-songwriter Sarah Buxton joins the Museum remotely for a 2021 Songwriter Session, sharing memories of her songwriting education and development and live versions of a mix of her songs, including hits she's written for major country stars (Keith Urban and Lady A among them) and selections from her own 2020 EP, "Signs of Life."
During a conversation with the Museum's Peter Cooper, Buxton talks about growing up in Lawrence, Kansas, and her earliest peeks at what she wanted to do for a living, her brief stint as a student at Nashville's Belmont University, exploring career possibilities in New York and Los Angeles, and finding success by creating stuff with friends.
Joined by guitarist Bryan Dawley, Buxton performs “Some Things Don’t Change” and “Little Bit Better,” both from “Signs of Life,” and shares stripped-down, intimate versions of “Fix” (a 2016 hit for Chris Lane that she co-wrote with Jesse Frasure and Abe Stoklasa), Grammy-winning Keith Urban hit “Stupid Boy” (written by Buxton, Dave Berg, and Deanna Bryant), and “Ocean,” a Buxton/Stoklasa/Tofer Brown co-write and the title track from Lady A's 2019 full-length.
