Will Hoge shares live performances of his songs—including tracks from his 2015 album “Small Town Dreams”—and answers questions from members of the audience during this 2015 Songwriter Session at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
Hoge opens off-mic with “Small Town Dreams” track “Growing Up Around Here,” and moves into a conversation about how his songs have ended up in the hands of major country stars and major ad campaigns, along with a major missed opportunity when he turned down the chance to co-write with a young Taylor Swift.
Hoge performs his song “Better Off (Now That You’re Gone),” which appears on Lady Antebellum’s 2013 album “Golden,” and “Strong,” which was “beamed into millions of households via television” in an ad campaign for the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck.
Will Hoge also offers insight into his songwriting—including the influence of his father, musician and photographer Peyton Hoge—and addresses a serious 2008 motorcycle accident that changed his writing process.
To close the program, Hoge quotes Roy Acuff and Vince Gill—“play the one that brung you”—and performs “Even If It Breaks Your Heart” (a 2012 hit for the Eli Young Band), and dedicates it to the late Country Music Hall of Fame member Jim Ed Brown.
