Princeton University history professor Sean Wilentz speaks about Bob Dylan’s strong ties to Nashville and country music as part of “Is It Rolling, Bob?,” a panel discussion at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum focusing on Dylan’s 1966 Nashville-made album, “Blonde on Blonde.”
Wilentz wrote the 2010 book “Bob Dylan in America,” served as historian-in-residence for Dylan’s official website, and contributed liner notes to Dylan albums, including the Grammy-winning box set “The Cutting Edge, 1965-1966.”
Joining Wilentz on the panel are Country Music Hall of Fame member Charlie McCoy, who played a variety of instruments across five Dylan albums in the 1960s; fellow “Nashville Cat” Wayne Moss, who played distinctive guitar parts on “Blonde on Blonde”; and alternative-rock musician Robyn Hitchcock, who released a double-album of Dylan covers in 1992.
Pete Finney, guest co-curator of the Museum’s exhibition “Dylan, Cash, and the Nashville Cats: A New Music City,” moderates the panel. As part of the program, participants comment on “Blonde on Blonde” rehearsal tracks and studio outtakes. “Stuck Inside of Mobile (with the Memphis Blues Again),” “I Want You,” “Pledging My Time,” and “Most Likely You’ll Go Your Way (and I’ll Go Mine)” are among the songs discussed.
