Songwriter Cary Barlowe shares stories from his life and performs songs he’s written as part of the Museum’s weekly Songwriter Session series. Fellow songwriter Hillary Lindsey—Barlowe’s wife—and their daughter, Bennett Barlowe, join Barlowe onstage during this program, recorded on February 22, 2025.
Barlowe begins the program with two songs he co-wrote, “Raised on Country” and “Damn Country Music.” Throughout the program, he answers audience questions and shares stories about his life, songwriting, and what it’s like writing hit songs. Barlowe also performs the #1 hits “It Don’t Hurt Like It Used To,” recorded by Billy Currington; “Where It’s At,” recorded by Dustin Lynch; “Famous Friends,” recorded by Chris Young and Kane Brown; “Made to Love,” recorded by Toby Mac; and “American Honey,” recorded by Lady A.
Barlowe’s songs have also been recorded by Lauren Alaina, Dierks Bentley, Little Big Town, Martina McBride, Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, and Carrie Underwood. He has written nine #1 songs for Mac, a Christan artist, including “City on Our Knees,” which won the Gospel Music Association’s Gospel Song of the Year award in 2010.
