Members of CMT’s Next Women of Country—Hannah Ellis, Lainey Wilson, Mickey Guyton, Caylee Hammack, and Rachel Wammack—gather at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on June 7, 2019, to share stories and songs. CMT senior vice president of music strategy Leslie Fram hosts.
Hannah Ellis talks about writing songs recorded by other artists, including Cassadee Pope and Russell Dickerson, and performs her own “Your Woman.” She also performs “Home and a Hometown,” a song she showcased on “The Bobby Bones Show.”
Lainey Wilson—who’s since written with and had songs recorded by Luke Combs—remembers driving her camper from her hometown of Baskin, Louisiana, to Nashville, and living in it for three years as she tried to make it as an artist and songwriter. She performs “Workin’ Overtime” and “Middle Finger.”
Before playing “Sister,” Mickey Guyton talks about how the support of her fellow women in music inspired the song. She also jokes about trying to write a drinking song for herself, and performs “Rosé.”
Rachel Wammack sings her “take-back-my-voice song,” “My Boyfriend Doesn’t Speak for Me Anymore,” along with “Something People Say,” which was inspired by a negative experience with an ex.
Caylee Hammack performs “Family Tree,” an ode to her loving, rambunctious family, and “Small Town Hypocrite,” which she wrote after breaking up with her boyfriend and driving to Nashville to chase her dreams.
