1h 27m
Los Lobos members Steve Berlin, David Hidalgo, Conrad Lozano, Louie Pérez, and Cesar Rosas join the Museum’s Michael McCall to discuss their history as a band and the cultural impact of their music. This program was recorded on May 11, 2023, and is offered in support of the Museum exhibition “Western Edge: The Roots and Reverberations of Los Angeles Country-Rock,” presented by City National Bank. This program was made possible in part by the Academy of Country Music.
For fifty years, Los Lobos has merged traditional Mexican music with American blues, country, folk, R&B, and zydeco, resulting in seventeen studio albums, seven live albums, scores of contributions to film soundtracks, multiple awards, and countless collaborations with other artists. Founders David Hidalgo, Conrad Lozano, Louie Pérez, and Cesar Rosas bonded over their shared interest in a wide range of musical styles while attending high school in East Los Angeles, while saxophonist Steve Berlin joined forty years ago after co-producing the band’s 1983 EP, … And a Time to Dance, with renowned roots music producer T Bone Burnett.
