Interview: Vince Gill and Paul Franklin • 2023
54m
Vince Gill and Paul Franklin join the Museum’s Dave Paulson to discuss the music of Ray Price and the Cherokee Cowboys. In 2023, the musicians released a new collaborative album, “Sweet Memories: The Music of Ray Price & The Cherokee Cowboys,” which digs deep into the repertoire of Price and his storied band. “Sweet Memories” is the follow-up to Gill and Franklin’s acclaimed 2013 album, “Bakersfield,” which explored the songs of Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. Accompanied by photos and videos, the program includes audio clips of Price’s original renditions of songs such as “Danny Boy,” and “Walking Slow (and Thinking ’Bout Her),” followed by Gill and Franklin’s versions. This program was recorded on August 4, 2023.
Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Vince Gill is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. His recordings—including “When I Call Your Name,” “Go Rest High on That Mountain,” and “I Still Believe in You”—have earned him 22 Grammy Awards, 18 CMA Awards, and 8 ACM Awards. He has sold more than 26 million albums. In 2017, he joined Rock & Roll Hall of Fame group the Eagles and continues to tour with them today.
Nashville musician Paul Franklin is among the world’s premier pedal steel guitarists, performing and recording with artists such as Chris Stapleton, George Strait, Alan Jackson, Shania Twain, Sting, and Barbra Streisand. He is also a member of the Grammy Award-winning western swing group the Time Jumpers. Franklin and Gill have released two collaborative albums.
