52m
Singer-songwriter Jessi Alexander, a West Tennessee native, shares stories from her life and performs songs she has written as part of the Museum’s weekly Songwriter Session series. This program, filmed on August 16, 2025, was presented in support of the Museum's exhibition “American Currents: State of the Music.”
Alexander starts the program by performing two songs she co-wrote, “Damn Country Music” and the Grammy-nominated “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma.” Throughout the program, she answers audience questions and recounts her childhood, her move to Nashville, and her career as a songwriter. Alexander shares the stories behind her Grammy-nominated songs “Mine Would Be You” and “I Drive Your Truck” and concludes the program with a performance of “The Climb,” recorded by Miley Cyrus.
Alexander’s songs have been recorded by Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson, Megan Moroney, Morgan Wallen, Lainey Wilson, Trisha Yearwood, and more artists. She has released three albums—“Honeysuckle Sweet” (2005), “Down Home” (2014), and “Decatur County Red” (2020)—and is part of the “American Currents: State of the Music” 2024 class.
