Virtuoso guitarists Joe Robinson and Pat Bergeson lead this concert saluting Chet Atkins, taped on October 1, 2011, at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, in conjunction with the Museum's 2011 – 2012 exhibit "Chet Atkins: Certified Guitar Player."
Australian guitar phenom Joe Robinson works across musical genres as a recording artist, instrumentalist, and songwriter. Mentor and collaborator Pat Bergeson, a touring and session guitarist who co-wrote songs and toured with Atkins, has cut several of his own albums, and recorded with Randy Travis, Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, and Kenny Rogers, among others.
Robinson kicks off the concert with two original songs—one, "Emily," with vocals—before Bergeson joins in on six instrumentals, including five they wrote or co-wrote. Bergeson also switches to harmonica for a performance of the classic song "Over the Rainbow."
Mid-set, the two collaborators answer questions about their craft. Robinson describes growing up in small-town Australia and how Atkins influenced his guitar playing, and Bergeson recalls his first meeting with Chet Atkins, and how he learned from—and taught—the Country Music Hall of Fame member.
