As part of the Museum’s weekly Songwriter Session series, Larry Cordle performs songs he has written and recorded throughout his career. During the program, recorded on June 13, 2026, he also shares stories about his experiences as a songwriter, offering audiences a look at the people, songs, and moments that have shaped his journey in country and bluegrass music.
Cordle opens the program with “Highway 40 Blues,” a #1 hit for Ricky Skaggs. Throughout the session, he performs several of his most notable songs, including “Lonesome Standard Time,” “Murder on Music Row” (a Country Music Association Vocal Event of the Year award winner), “Mama, Don’t Forget to Pray for Me,” “Shade Tree Mechanic,” “Black Diamond Strings,” and “I Wrote This Song for You.” He concludes the program with “Gone on Before” in tribute to the late Ronnie Bowman.
Cordle is a singer-songwriter whose songs have been recorded by Garth Brooks, Diamond Rio, Alison Krauss, Loretta Lynn, Kathy Mattea, Trisha Yearwood, and others.
