Luke Bryan Hits With Rhett Akins and Dallas Davidson, Live
1h 11m
During a 2015 Songwriter Round at the Museum, country hit-makers Rhett Akins and Dallas Davidson perform songs they wrote for Luke Bryan, including “Play It Again,” “Huntin’, Fishin’, and Lovin’ Every Day,” “I Don’t Want This Night to End,” and “Country Girl Shake It For Me.”
The songwriters discuss how they met each other, along with Bryan and frequent co-writer Ben Hayslip, before any of them had success in the music industry. The Nashville-via-Georgia transplants bonded over common childhood experiences and a desire to create country music. Akins, Davidson, and Hayslip found an immediate songwriting chemistry and began writing together every week, soon earning the nickname “the Peach Pickers.”
During the program, Akins and Davidson share funny stories of writing and hanging out with Bryan, and perform dead-on impressions of the ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year’s thick Georgia drawl.
In addition to the hits they wrote for Luke Bryan, Akins performs his own Top Ten single “That Ain’t My Truck” and “It Goes Like This,” an early #1 for his son Thomas Rhett, while Davidson sings his Randy Houser single “The One That Got Away” and the Joe Nichols hit “Gimme That Girl.”
The writers have scored multiple hits with fellow Georgian Jason Aldean, and perform the #1s “When She Says Baby” and “Tonight Looks Good On You,” along with a selection of their Blake Shelton cuts, including “Boys ‘Round Here,” “Honey Bee,” and “Granddaddy’s Gun.”
Presented in support of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum exhibition “Luke Bryan: Dirt Road Diary” (May 22, 2015 through November 8, 2015).
