1h 13m
Robert K. Oermann, Richie Owens, and Tom Roland sit down in the Ford Theater to discuss Dolly Parton’s book “Star of the Show: My Life on Stage,” which she co-wrote with Roland. The Museum’s Erin Osmon moderated the program, which was recorded on January 7, 2026, and presented in support of the exhibition “Dolly Parton: Journey of a Seeker.”
During this program, Oermann, Owens, and Roland share how each of them have been involved in various Parton projects throughout the years and why they feel she is a lasting star. They also discuss Parton’s path to success and the experiences that shaped her career along the way. Owens reflects on knowing Parton his entire life, first growing up with her as a cousin and later joining her band. The conversation also touches on Parton’s many looks and tours, her time performing with Porter Wagoner, and forming Trio with Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt.
A longtime music journalist, Oermann writes weekly columns for “MusicRow” magazine and co-authored Parton’s book “Songteller: My Life in Lyrics,” published in 2020. Owens is active as a touring musician. Roland is the editor of “Billboard Country Update” and the author of the books “The Billboard Book of #1 Country Hits” and “Beautiful Mess: The Story of Diamond Rio.”
