Singer-songwriter Shawn Camp—who has written hits for Garth Brooks, Brooks & Dunn, George Strait, and Josh Turner, among others—shares stories and performs nine of his songs for the Museum’s Songwriter Session series. Camp has collaborated extensively with Country Music Hall of Fame member Loretta Lynn, and his appearance comes in conjunction with the 2017 – 2018 exhibition “Loretta Lynn: Coal Miner’s Daughter.”
An Arkansas native, Camp fashioned a long and accomplished Nashville career as a recording artist, songwriter, and producer, working closely with such formative figures as Lynn, Cowboy Jack Clement, and Guy Clark. He also is a member of the Earls of Leicester, an award-winning bluegrass group dedicated to paying tribute to the music of Flatt & Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys.
For this program, Camp tells the stories behind songs and performs hits he co-wrote, including George Strait’s “River of Love,” Garth Brooks’s “Two Piña Coladas,” Brooks & Dunn’s “How Long Gone,” and Josh Turner’s “Would You Go With Me.”
He also pays tribute to Loretta Lynn, sharing personal recollections and performing their collaboration “I’m Dying for Someone to Live for,” which appears on her 2018 album, “Wouldn’t It Be Great.” Camp also answers audience questions about his songwriting process.
