Guitarist Wayne Moss–whose signature licks have appeared on such classics as Roy Orbison's "Oh, Pretty Woman" and Waylon Jennings' "Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line"–looks back on his decades-long career as one of Nashville's top studio musicians as part of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's Nashville Cats series.
The West Virginia native also has made his musical mark as a member of such influential bands as Area Code 615 and Barefoot Jerry, and for over 50 years, he has owned and operated Cinderella Sound Studio, attracting such artists as Linda Ronstadt, the Steve Miller Band and Ricky Skaggs. As a studio musician, Moss has appeared on the recordings of a staggering list of artists, including on Bob Dylan's classic "Blonde on Blonde."
In this hour-long conversation with museum curator and fellow musician Bill Lloyd, Moss describes the many facets of his career as a live performer, studio musician, and studio owner. He also recounts the stories behind several songs, including how he ended up with an epic solo after losing a coin toss with fellow master guitarist Jerry Reed and how he turned down Elvis Presley's offer to play on "Burning Love–but still served as the creator of its classic guitar riffs.
