Country music producer Brent Maher discovered and produced mother-daughter duo the Judds, and worked with a long list of other artists within and beyond the genre, including country stars Kathy Mattea, Jo Dee Messina, and Kenny Rogers, soul staples Ray Charles and Gladys Knight, and genre-blending juggernauts Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley, among many others. Maher also engineered “Lost Highway,” a Grammy-winning single from "The Last of the Breed" collaboration between Country Music Hall of Fame members Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, and Ray Price.
Here, Maher joins the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's Michael McCall to discuss a decades-long music career that led to multiple Grammy wins, numerous platinum and multi-platinum albums, and at the time of this 2019 program, more than twenty #1 singles.
Among other topics, Brent Maher shares insight into how he worked with The Judds to shape their trendsetting acoustic sound, and how early jingle recordings by Naomi and Wynonna Judd cemented his belief that the approach suited that duo.
