Patsy Cline’s family and friends gather at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum to remember her songs, life, and legacy during the 2012 panel discussion “I’ve Got Your Memory: Family And Friends Remember Patsy Cline.” Panelists include Cline’s husband, Charlie Dick; her daughter, Julie Fudge; Country Music Hall of Fame member Harold Bradley, who played bass on many of Cline’s records; and Cline’s personal friends and fellow country artists George Hamilton IV and Jan Howard.

Dick, Hamilton, and Howard talk about their memorable first encounters with the outspoken Patsy Cline. Howard remembers earning the late Country Music Hall of Fame member’s respect by talking back when they first met backstage at the Grand Ole Opry, and Hamilton recalls bonding with Cline over their mutual love for the song “Life’s a Railway to Heaven.”

Fudge shares memories of her mother and grandmother, Patsy Cline and Hilda Hensley, painstakingly designing and sewing stage clothes, and reflects on how special it felt to attend her mother’s 1973 posthumous election to the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Bradley shares insight into the working relationship between Cline and his brother, producer Owen Bradley. The two often squabbled, he says, but Owen Bradley always stuck up for the headstrong Cline when others claimed she was difficult. After her hit “I Fall to Pieces,” they figured out the formula to Cline’s success, and to fewer disagreements.

Howard jokes that “I Fall to Pieces” was “her song,” since it was co-written by then-husband Harlan Howard, and she had plans to record it. After hearing Patsy Cline’s version, though, Howard agreed that “I Fall to Pieces” went to the right voice.

The program concludes with the panel’s thoughts on Patsy Cline’s timeless, lasting contributions to music.
