Pianist and arranger Bill Pursell shares the stage with jazz vocalist Staci Griesbach for a Musician Spotlight at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, filmed on September 8, 2019. During the program, Pursell talks about recording his Top Ten 1963 instrumental single, “Our Winter Love,” and working during the 1960s “Nashville Sound” era, and he and Griesbach perform a mix of Patsy Cline classics.
Staci Griesbach explains why she made “My Patsy Cline Songbook,” a jazz tribute album to Patsy Cline, and sings “Sweet Dreams,” “Why Can’t He Be You,” and “I Fall to Pieces.” Pursell offers memories of recording with Cline and her producer, Owen Bradley, along with other noteworthy experiences, from working on Ralph Emery’s morning show and recording with Johnny Cash (who turned out to be a prankster) to encountering President John F. Kennedy in Nashville.
The program concludes with an ensemble rendition of “Crazy,” a #2 country hit for Patsy Cline, written by fellow Country Music Hall of Fame member Willie Nelson.
