Lucie Silvas, Maggie Rose, Jillian Jacqueline, Carly Pearce, and Brandy Clark perform in a songwriter’s round and speak candidly about their experiences as independent artists for this installment of CMT’s Next Women of Country program, hosted at the Museum on June 9, 2017, by CMT’s Leslie Fram.
Fram explains how she met each performer and encourages each to share her story with the audience of CMA Music Festival attendees. Silvas speaks about finding the courage to be independent while Rose talks about reclaiming her own creative identity. Jacqueline recalls the lessons she learned while working with Kenny Rogers as a child.
Pearce tells the audience that she moved away from her Kentucky hometown at age sixteen in order to sing professionally at Dollywood. Clark shares a story about spending $7,500 of her own money on the music video for “Stripes,” which ended up in rotation on CMT. Fram tells the audience that hearing Clark perform at the Bluebird Café sparked the idea to create the Next Women of Country campaign.
The set list includes “My Old Habits” (Silvas), “More Dreams Than Dollars” (Rose), “Hate Me” (Jacqueline), “Ride Home” (Pearce), “Daughter” (Clark), “Just for the Record” (Silvas), “Body on Fire” (Rose), “Sad Girls” (Jacqueline), “Every Little Thing” (Pearce), “Three Kids, No Husband” (Clark).
