Recording artist and songwriter Elvie Shane shares stories behind songs from his 2021 debut album “Backslider,” including his breakthrough hit “My Boy” and his latest single, “County Roads.” Shane also performs “I Will Run” and “Miles (with My Mama),” and fields questions from the audience, discussing growing up and living in Kentucky, his musical influences, and advice for aspiring artists.
Part of the Museum’s “Live at the Hall” series, this performance was recorded on May 7, 2022.
Elvie Shane grew up in Caneyville, Kentucky, and was equally influenced by the gospel music he sang in church with his mother, and the classic rock, Motown, and country music his father played on the radio. A former “American Idol” contestant, Shane released his music online, until his song “My Boy” became a viral hit on Tik Tok in 2020, just before it was released to country radio. The song became Shane’s first “Billboard” Country Airplay #1. He made his Grand Ole Opry debut in 2021 and completed his first headlining tour in 2022.
