John Hiatt and Jerry Douglas, masters of American music, sit down for a conversation with the Museum’s Peter Cooper about their collaborative 2021 album, "Leftover Feelings," recorded with the Jerry Douglas Band at Historic RCA Studio B, which is operated by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The program includes their live performance of two songs from the album: “All the Lilacs in Ohio” and “Mississippi Phone Booth.”
Hiatt has written and recorded many classic roots rock albums including "Bring the Family" and "Slow Turning." A member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and winner of the BMI Troubadour Award, he's had songs recorded by Buddy Guy, Rosanne Cash, Emmylou Harris, B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Bonnie Raitt, and many other greats.
Multiple Grammy and CMA Award-winner Douglas learned his craft in topflight bluegrass bands and hundreds of Nashville recording sessions. Over the years, he reinvented the dobro, elevating the instrument to new heights of popularity and affording an elegance and eloquence to the resonator guitar.
In conversation with Cooper, Hiatt and Douglas discuss their artistic processes, their influences, and their journeys. Douglas says, “I really figured out I could help the singer tell the story.”
