Adam Wright shares stories, answers audience questions, and performs a mix of songs he’s written, including new compositions and cuts by his uncle Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, Joe Nichols, Lee Ann Womack, and others.
The March 21, 2015, program, held at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in conjunction with the exhibition “Alan Jackson: 25 Years of Keepin’ It Country” (August 29, 2014, through June 21, 2015), is part of the Museum’s Songwriter Sessions series.
Like Jackson, Wright is a native of Newnan, Georgia, who moved to Nashville to pursue a career in music. Responding to an audience question about his songwriting approach, Wright says, “I guess the short answer is, I usually have an idea, some sort of lyric idea, or what I want to write about. It’s usually because I’m thinking about something. I’ll be at the grocery store or I’ll be sitting in traffic, and I’ll be mulling something over in my feeble mind. And a thought will come together that sounds like a lyric, or a line in a song, and then I’ll start working on it that way.”
The set list for Adam Wright’s 2015 Songwriter Session includes: “The Way I’m Livin’” (recorded by Womack), “No Truck, No Boat, No Girl” (recorded by Nichols), “When He Made That Girl,” “Happiness Depends,” “So You Don’t Have to Love Me Anymore” (recorded by Jackson), “We’ll All Drink Money” (recorded by The Wrights, his duo with wife Shannon Wright), and “Born to Dream.”
