Hit-making songwriters Buzz Cason, Dallas Frazier, Dickey Lee, and Dan Penn come together to perform signature songs at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on April 1, 2017, celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Museum’s Poets and Prophets series.
A Nashville native, Cason has written songs recorded by genre-spanning artists, including Dolly Parton, Placido Domingo, Gloria Estefan, and Pearl Jam, among others. Raised in Bakersfield, California, Frazier has scored hits for such country stars as Merle Haggard, Charley Pride, Emmylou Harris and the Oak Ridge Boys. Lee, a Memphis-bred singer-songwriter, has seen his work recorded by Elvis Presley, Marty Robbins, Waylon Jennings, and Reba McEntire, and others. Penn grew up near Muscle Shoals, Alabama, a hotbed for R&B and soul, and made his mark writing for such legends as Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, and Percy Sledge.
The four songwriters—all of whom are Poets and Prophets alums—each perform four songs to mark a decade of the series, created to honor songwriters who have made significant contributions to country music. Highlights include "Everlasting Love" and "Love's the Only House" (Buzz Cason); "There Goes My Everything" and "Elvira" (Dallas Frazier); "She Thinks I Still Care" and "I Saw Linda Yesterday" (Dickey Lee); and "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" and "Dark End of the Street" (Dan Penn).
Produced in collaboration with Nashville Songwriters Association International's Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival.
