Ashley Gorley and Rodney Clawson—who wrote some of Luke Bryan’s biggest hits, including “Crash My Party,” “That’s My Kind of Night,” and “Play It Again”—perform during a special 2015 Songwriter Session at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, in support of the exhibition “Luke Bryan: Dirt Road Diary.”
Gorley and Clawson open the program with “Crash My Party,” the title track and leadoff single from Bryan’s 2013 album, then trade turns in the spotlight showcasing songs Luke Bryan cut and/or co-wrote with them.
Gorley, the only songwriter to win ASCAP’s “Country Music Songwriter of the Year” seven times, performs “I See You,” co-written with Bryan and Luke Laird; “That’s My Kind of Night,” co-written with Dallas Davidson and Chris DeStefano; “Games,” co-written with Bryan for his annual spring break record; and “Play It Again,” co-written with Dallas Davidson.
Clawson, a farmer-turned-songwriter who’s earned dozens of #1s, plays “Drunk On You,” the first song Bryan recorded that wasn’t self-penned; “Fast,” co-written with Luke Laird and Bryan; and “Sweet Southern Comfort,” his first Top Five song and the one he says brought him and Bryan together as collaborators and friends.
Both songwriters also field questions from the audience about their writing process, finding inspiration, and working with Bryan, one of country music’s most popular stars.
“Luke Bryan: Dirt Road Diary": open at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum May 22, 2015 through November 8, 2015.
