The career and legacy of pioneering talent scout, record producer, music publisher, and artist manager Ralph Peer is explored during this 2014 multi-media program at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, featuring Barry Mazor (author of "Ralph Peer and the Making of Popular Roots Music") and Peer's son Ralph Peer II in conversation with Museum historian John Rumble, along with performances from singer-songwriter Shawn Camp with musicians Larry Atamanuik, Mike Bub, and Laura Cash.
Mazor explores Peer’s work with Jimmie Rodgers, Ernest V. “Pop” Stoneman, the Carter Family, and other country greats, and digs into how Peer's work shaped country music’s emergence as a commercial art form and led to his election to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1984.
Live performances include Floyd Tillman tune "Slippin' Around" and Bob Wills favorite "Take Me Back to Tulsa."
The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum explored Ralph Peer's life and work through the exhibition "Ralph Peer: Record Man," open September 12 through December 14, 2014.
