Canadian singer-songwriter and musician MacKenzie Porter performs songs she’s co-written, shares the stories behind them, and answers audience questions in the Museum’s weekly Songwriter Session series. Louis Johnson accompanies Porter on guitar during this program, which was recorded on September 28, 2024.
During this program, Porter performs several songs she’s co-written, including “These Days,” from her 2020 EP, “Drinkin’ Songs: The Collection,” and “If You Ask Me To,” from her 2014 self-titled album. She tells stories about the songs on her debut album with Big Loud Records, 2024’s “Nobody’s Born with a Broken Heart,” and performs several songs from the record: “Chasing Tornadoes,” written by Lainey Wilson, “Rough Ride for a Cowboy,” and “Have Your Beer.” Porter co-wrote nine songs on the album, including the title track and the single “Pickup.”
Porter notched a country radio #1 in 2021 with “Thinking ’Bout You,” a duet with Dustin Lynch. She co-hosted the 2024 Canadian Country Music Awards with Thomas Rhett and won two awards—Female Artist of the Year and Video of the Year, for "Chasing Tornadoes”—during the ceremony. Porter has opened concerts for Kenny Chesney, Jordan Davis, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, and Blake Shelton.'
