Marshall Chapman takes the stage at the Museum to share stories and perform songs from a decades-spanning career as a singer-songwriter, including “Betty’s Bein’ Bad,” which was recorded by country group Sawyer Brown and taken to #5 in the country charts in 1985.
Throughout her 2020 Songwriter Session, Chapman also speaks to her early years growing up in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and her experiences after relocating to Nashville to attend Vanderbilt University, connecting with Outlaw-era artists Cowboy Jack Clement, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson, and developing a mutual respect and admiration.
In addition to “Betty’s Bein’ Bad,” Chapman performs “Rode Hard and Put Up Wet,” “Somewhere South of Macon,” “After Midnight,” and “Happy Childhood,” while speaking to the craft of songwriting and to a fourteen-album career in which she penned songs cut by Jimmy Buffett, Joe Cocker, Emmylou Harris, Ronnie Milsap, Irma Thomas, Trisha Yearwood, and many others.
