Singer-songwriter Rissi Palmer and accompanist Charles Newkirk perform songs from Palmer's deeply personal 2019 album, “Revival”: “Seeds,” written after the murder of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, and “You Were Here,” written after Palmer suffered a miscarriage. Part of the Museum’s “Live at the Hall” series, these live performances were recorded on July 29, 2021.
For her main “Live at the Hall” program, Palmer joins the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Michael Gray to discuss her musical influences, songwriting beginnings, and experience as a Black woman pursuing country music in Nashville. She also performs her songs “Summerville” and “Country Girl.”
Palmer counts among the artists recognized in 2021's “American Currents: State of the Music,” the Museum's annual exploration of significant recent developments in country music. The exhibition offers insight into “Color Me Country,” the bi-weekly radio show Rissi Palmer hosts on Apple Music, spotlighting racial diversity in country music.
