Singer-songwriter and The Wrights member Adam Wright joins the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum remotely for a 2021 Songwriter Session, sharing insights about the influence of songwriting heroes including Guy Clark and Roger Miller, and performing a mix of songs he’s had recorded by Lee Ann Womack, Cody Canada, and others, along with selections from his own releases.
In conversation with the Museum’s Peter Cooper, Wright talks about career and craft: being inspired by the success of his uncle, Country Music Hall of Fame member Alan Jackson; what he focuses on to be the best songwriter he can be; the different experiences of co-writing and writing solo, and having a song cut versus recording it for a personal project; and experiences that made him want to focus on writing over touring.
Among the live songs Adam Wright shares during his 2021 Songwriter Session: “Darlene,” from his own 2020 album “I Win”; “The Banker,” from his 2018 solo album “Dust”; “End of the End of the World,” which Lee Ann Womack recorded for her Grammy-nominated 2017 album “The Lonely, the Lonesome & the Gone”; and “Wonder if the World Can Wait That Long,” a track that former Cross Canadian Ragweed singer Cody Canada recorded for “The Next Waltz,” an analog-focused Austin label led by hit songwriter Bruce Robison.
