Singer-songwriter Darryl Worley performs hits from his lengthy career and answers audience questions during this January 2017 Songwriter Session at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
Opening with 2009 hit "Sounds Like Life to Me"—which he explains was inspired by his father's response to his boyhood complaints—Worley goes on to perform "The Way Things Are Goin'"; "Second Wind" (his mother's "favorite song," which she embraced as a healing force when she battled cancer); "I Miss My Friend," a 2002 #1; and "Have You Forgotten?" his chart-topping 2003 hit, written to stir memories of 9/11.
Worley also shines a spotlight on a then-forthcoming Christian album, singing snippets of two faith-inspired songs, including “Wash Me."
During a Q&A with the audience, Worley discusses the pros and cons of writing with partners and writing solo, where he finds songwriting inspiration, how his faith influences his music, and how he struggles to write personal lyrics that also have universal meaning. He also cites musical influences, including Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, the Eagles, Vern Gosdin, and Gene Watson.
