Songwriter Sessions

North Carolinian singer-songwriters BJ Barham, Jonathan Byrd, and Sarah Siskind share stories and songs inspired by their home state in support of 2019’s AmericanaFest and as part of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Songwriter Sessions series.
Barham is the front man and primary songwriter of the band American Aquarium. He has also released solo project ”Rockingham,” a collection of songs exploring small town life and rural America, inspired by his hometown of Reidsville, North Carolina. Byrd, a seventh-generation Carolinian, has released eleven eclectic and wide-ranging albums, including 2018’s “Jonathan Byrd & The Pickup Cowboys.” Siskind has written songs recorded by Alison Krauss, Molly Tuttle, Wynonna, and Country Music Hall of Fame member Randy Travis, as well as twenty-one songs for the television series “Nashville.”
Between humorous between-song anecdotes, Barham acknowledges his penchant for writing sad songs, and performs “Unfortunate Kind,” “Road to Nowhere,” and “The Day I Learned to Lie to You.” Byrd’s set includes the reflective tunes “I Was an Oak Tree,” and “Father’s Day,” as well as more lighthearted songs “Tractor Pull” and “A Big Truck Brought It.” Siskind performs “Sanctuary,” one of the songs featured in “Nashville,” along with “The One,” and “In the Mountains,” which she was inspired to write after moving back to her home state of North Carolina.
