Country music and bluegrass fiddler Stuart Duncan discusses his life in music with fellow Nashville musician and host Bill Lloyd in this seventy-minute program, which includes vintage photos, film footage, and recordings. Duncan performs two numbers with vocalist-fiddler Alison Krauss and vocalist-guitarist Dan Tyminski: “The Pathway of Teardrops” and “Sawing on the Strings.” The multi-media program and interview surveys Duncan’s career from being a child prodigy to the esteemed, first-call veteran of studio and stage that he is today.

“Despite the multitude of recognizable hit records that features his playing, he’s the kind of player whose musical curiosity creates world, class, genre-bending work that takes him around the world,” says program host Bill Lloyd, who in the program notes that Duncan has collaborated with everyone from Yo Yo Ma to Alan Jackson to Panic at the Disco. “The reason he gets those kinds of calls is because he is among the best of the best at what he does.”

During the program, Duncan discusses his musical childhood, playing guitar and banjo at age six, and then becoming eager to learn how to play the fiddle after seeing fiddler Byron Berline play with the Dillards. Duncan talks about participating in fiddle contests, and then growing up to play fiddle in bluegrasser Larry Sparks’s band and then Duncan’s move to Nashville in 1985, when he became a member of the Nashville Bluegrass Band after sitting in to play with the band and singer Peter Rowan at the Station Inn nightclub.
