Five rising female artists share songs, personal histories, and career perspective in this CMT’s Next Women of Country program hosted by CMT executive Leslie Fram. Performers include RaeLynn, Angaleena Presley, Danielle Bradbery, Cam, and Kelsea Ballerini.

This June 11, 2015, program opens with a round of acoustic performances: RaeLynn’s “For a Boy,” Presley’s “American Middle Class,” Bradbery’s “Heart of Dixie,” Cam’s “Burning House,” and Ballerini’s “Peter Pan.” Each song is introduced with insight about that song.

Each performer then tells Fram about their initial interest in music. RaeLynn speaks about seeing a Miranda Lambert music video on CMT, while Presley recalls hearing her mother listening to Loretta Lynn songs while washing the dishes. Bradbery explains how her mother signed her up for competition show “The Voice,” even though she’s shy. Cam shares advice she received from a professor while deciding whether to pursue music or psychology, and Ballerini describes how she used songwriting as a way to cope with being a teenager while her parents were splitting up.

Going down the line twice more, each performer speaks about the challenges of an artist’s career as well as the issue of women rarely being played on modern country radio. The event concludes with more acoustic performances: RaeLynn’s “God Made Girls,” Angaleena Presley’s “Lemon Drop,” Bradbery’s “Never Like This,” Cam’s “My Mistake,” and Ballerini’s “Love Me Like You Mean It” (preceded by a portion of Rihanna’s pop hit, “Take a Bow”).
