Brooke Eden, Tara Thompson, Margo Price, Lauren Alaina, and Clare Dunn perform original songs in-the-round and share their songwriting process with CMT’s Leslie Fram during this CMT’s Next Women of Country program, filmed June 10, 2016, at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, during the CMA Music Festival.
Eden recalls her childhood in Florida singing in honky-tonks with her father’s country band and opening shows for national touring artists as a teenager. Thompson talks about pulling double and triple shifts as a singer at the honky-tonks in downtown Nashville.
Price discusses the low points of her life, including time spent in prison and the death of her son, prior to signing a record deal. Alaina opens up about the family drama and the eating disorder that she shielded from the public eye after being on “American Idol.” Dunn tearfully recounts the sacrifices made by her family on their Colorado farm so she could pursue her dream of being a recording artist in Nashville. The program promotes CMT’s campaign, Next Women of Country.
The set list includes: “If I Would’ve Known” (Brooke Eden), “Someone to Take Your Place” (Tara Thompson), “Hands of Time” (Margo Price), “My Kind of People” (Lauren Alaina), “Old Hat” (Clare Dunn), “Silent Speaks” (Eden), “Vows” (Thompson), “Tennessee Song” (Price), “Road Less Traveled” (Alaina), and “Tuxedo” (Dunn).
