During this 2013 program, master guitarist and songwriter Mac Gayden reminisces about his influential career—which includes decades of laying down licks for countless pop, country, and R&B recordings, and co-writing multi-genre, multi-decade hit "Everlasting Love"—and performs a selection of songs.

A Nashville native, Gayden started out playing in local bands and by the 1960s, he became an in-demand studio guitarist. In the late 1960s and 1970s, he co-founded Area Code 615 and Barefoot Jerry, two significant Nashville bands made up of other studio musicians. As a slide guitarist, he is famous for developing an innovative wah-wah style, which can be heard on J.J. Cale's classic "Crazy Mama." His guitar work also appears on Bob Dylan's groundbreaking album "Blonde on Blonde," as well as on recordings by Kris Kristofferson, Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, Charley Pride, and Linda Ronstadt.

During the program—part of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's Nashville Cats series—Gayden describes his eclectic career, spanning studio work, live performance, and songwriting in multiple genres. He also shares stories about his personal and professional brushes with such legendary artists as Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix, Duane Allman, and Hank Williams.

Gayden closes the program with a live performance of three signature songs: his own "Morning Glory," Cale's "Crazy Mama," and "Everlasting Love."
